V&A Museum gallery shop

Invited as part of an international shortlist, the brief called for a flexible solution to the need for a shop that responds to the temporary exhibitions held within the planned refurbishment of the V&A museum. Developed in collaboration with a recycled plastic supplier, the proposed components were formed entirely from the museums waste plastics and formed a series of plinths and display cases that could be used to subdivide spaces, creating ‘rooms’ and respond to the particular media and content of exhibitions. Permanent store content such as prints and fabrics were proposed as a ‘canopy’ that remained static and helped signify the shop within the large open terrace on which the store is located to the surrounding spaces.
